Southeast Alaska contains the largest intact temperate rainforest in the world.
The forests of Southeast Alaska sustain a unique way of life, including cultural, subsistence and spiritual ties for Alaska Native communities; flourishing salmon fisheries; abundant wildlife; spectacular tourism opportunities; vast remote wilderness; timber, minerals and hydrothermal that help power the region’s economy; and carbon sequestration capacity that benefits the world.
The Tongass Collaborative is an independent stakeholder group – comprised of the people and entities that bear responsibility for and are most impacted by decisions about how this forested landscape is managed.
