Community-Hosted Tongass Feedback Forms

Important note. These are not official U.S. Forest Service forms. They are community-hosted forms created to give people another way to share feedback in a format that closely tracks the forms used during official U.S. Forest Service community meetings scheduled for April 2026.

Regional organizations in Southeast Alaska are hosting these forms so that people who could not attend a meeting still have a similar chance to respond. Hosting the forms does not mean the host organizations endorse the draft content shown in them.

What these forms are designed to do

These forms are structured feedback tools for people who want to comment on preliminary Tongass Plan Revision materials in a more guided, question-by-question format. They are meant to lower the barrier to participation, especially for people who were not able to make it to a community meeting in person.

The forms are similar in purpose and overall structure to the forms made available during the official U.S. Forest Service community workshop process, but they are separate community-hosted tools. They are intended to expand access, not replace the federal process or speak for the Forest Service.

What the forms cover

1. Draft Plan Content FormThis form focuses on preliminary draft plan content. In plain terms, it asks people to respond to the draft goals and direction being considered for management of the Tongass, along with the standards, guidelines, and other rules meant to shape how those goals are carried out while avoiding or minimizing harm.A plain-language version of this same form is also available for people who want the same general questions in simpler wording.2. Draft Management Area Map FormThis form focuses on the proposed management area map. In practical terms, it asks for feedback on the draft management area framework, which works like forest-wide zoning by identifying places where more place-based direction, priorities, and standards could apply. The goal is to help people comment not just on broad forest-wide direction, but also on how different parts of the Tongass may be managed for different local outcomes.

Why regional organizations are sharing these forms

  • To make the feedback opportunity more accessible to people across Southeast Alaska who could not attend the official U.S. Forest Service community meetings.
  • To offer a familiar, structured format for responding to draft plan materials and the draft management area framework.
  • To widen participation without implying endorsement of the draft content or claiming that these are official federal forms.

Timing and submission note. The organizations hosting these forms plan to summarize the responses and submit those summaries, along with the raw response data for verification, to the U.S. Forest Service before the current comment period ends. To allow time for review and compilation, please submit these forms by May 3, 2026.

Additional official comments. Anyone who is inspired by this process is also encouraged to submit comments directly through the same CARA portal used for the Tongass Plan Revision comment process.
